I'd make up one end of the tube with nipple, teflon tape it, you know, with three wraps, and then thread it into the mixer, Then you can do the nipple into the spout and measure to get you custom cut length, and sweat on the second nipple. I doubt you will be able to get the "just right" nipple for you particular distance. Front end threaded spout that can be used for a tub valve with a built in shower diverter The length of the pipe that is coming out from your wall should be 4' to 4-3/8' to avoid a gap between the wall and the edge of the spout. On second look at your diagram, it looks like you might need to make up a two nipple ended tube. Tub spout with no diverter with a threaded nose 1/2 inch IPS inside thread, 5-1/4' length replacement part. Threaded NPT Spout: NPT refers to a standard thread size in the plumbing industry. On a side note, don't even try with one of those white plastic things. A slip-fit spout does not contain threads. Good luck with you project and let us know how you make out. These are typically installed by being set over a tub’s copper piping and secured in place with a setscrew underneath, hence the small hole at the bottom. If the base of your faucet has a small hole at the end, chances are it is a slip-on. ![]() I find that is I thread the nipple into the spout and put it onto the stub out, then measure the distance from spout to wall and cut that much off the stub out I can get it just about every time on the first try. How To Remove Tub Spout (Without Set Screw) To start with, it’s important that you identify what kind of spout you have. Many times, a stripped tub spout will indicate that. If it is out too far you didnt cut the spout short enough and will have to unsweat the nipple and cut it off a bit and resweat. Remove the pipes end nipple with a pipe wrench in a counterclockwise direction, if the threads are damaged. Then you can put on three(not sure where that amount was arrived at but my dad swore by three wraps, no more, no less on the male threads) wraps of teflon tape and spin on the spout. When I do a bath, I just sweat on the tube to the mixer a bit long so after the backer and tile are up and grouted we can make the measurement and sweat on the nipple. Prevents the showerhead from dripping while the tub spout is filling the tub Limits back pressure Maintains pressure on the tub spout diverter gate to keep it in the closed position Often used to convert older tub fillers to add a shower to an existing bath tub 1/2' in from shower valve above out to 3/4' front style diverter tub spout.
